We are constantly bombarded by advertisings from the drug companies trying to sell us drugs. Now with de-regulation by the FCC there are drug commercials on TV. But they have to say all of the side affects and you have to ask your doctor. The patient now is supposed to know more than the doctor and recommend treatment. Now we see that, what chiropractors have been saying literally for over 100 years is that drugs are dangerous. This is more true than ever. They can kill and do kill every year. It is well known in medical circles that countless lives are lost due to iatrogenic causes (doctor caused) illnesses. One drug is given for this and causes that and the person either suddenly or eventually dies from that not this. We now see it all comes out. For years I have been telling my patients about the dangers of prescription drugs. Then one day with Vioxx and Celebrex, the patients would just say oh! now its safe see I take Vioxx or Celebrex. So, I actually began to doubt my resolve.

One day I decided for one year to not take Tylenol when I had a headache. Of course! I got them all the time. (See article on food allergies). Every time I got a headache I drank more water to fight the dehydration instead of a taking Tylenol. Amazing, it usually worked. Then a year later, I really had a doozy of a headache so I broke down and took one Tylenol. The result was unexpected, since before when I gobbled handfuls with no benefit, taking higher and higher dosages with no relief. Taking one made my headache go away. Only one! What does that mean? Tylenol was made better, NO. It means that it is a drug and your body shuts down and doesn’t react to it since it is addictive. The message is that even Tylenol can have addictive affects and acts like any other drug just like heroin or cocaine. I knew Tylenol wasn’t good but I didn’t have the back up research on it. About four or five years ago a study came out on the dangers of Tylenol.

Now, we have found out what the drug companies already knew that Vioxx and Celebrex can kill, so much so that they had to take it off the market. I have even heard MD’s in the past say take it, it will keep you form getting a heart attack like aspirin. Wow! Were they off on this one! Well, not just this one.

Yes, medicine has gone a long way in extending human life. Maybe it’s not due to the drugs. Sanitation, basic public health has improved all over the world. Food supplies are at an all time high, at least in 1st world countries. I am not an advocate of no drugs at all. Some times the human body is so sick that you have no choice. Maybe if we move towards healthier eating, healthier thinking, a healthier water supply, healthier natural foods, a healthier planet with less pollution, and get regular chiropractic adjustments. We won’t get so sick.

That way you won’t end up having to take drugs that will inevitably cause something else.
